This National Certificate in Cosmetology, Hairdressing and Body Therapy (NCCB), curriculum is aimed at producing graduates who are relevant to the industry and world of work. It is learner-centred and competence-based and emphasises acquisition of skills through practical teaching and execution of projects.

The curriculum is in line with the BTVET Act of (2008), the BTVET Strategic Plan 2011 – 2020 of “Skilling Uganda’’ and the Uganda Vision 2040.

The competences that the learner is expected to acquire are clearly spelt out in the modules covered in each of the three terms of an academic year. The modules offered in this course are packaged in a manner that will enable the learner to attain particular skills required for performing tasks at any level of the respective year of study.

Modules such as Computer Applications, Basic Kiswahili and Life Skills, are aimed at enhancing the learner’s report writing, communication and presentation skills.

In addition, modules such as Hair Care and Design, Chemical Hair Reformation, Fundamentals of Hairdressing, Basic Beauty Therapy, Hair Cutting and Barbering, Basic Hair Colouring and Real Life Project are aimed at equipping the learner with the core hands-on skills and techniques in Cosmetology and Body Therapy.

The Entrepreneurship Skills module will provide the learner with skills of starting up and profitably managing and sustaining an enterprise in an ethical manner. Industrial Training, which is done at the end of each academic year, is aimed at bridging the gap between institutional-based training and the world of work.

A professional profile was developed which is an amalgamation of the various tasks from which modules were formed. This led to the development of an educational concept which included; focus of education, assessment criteria, roles of learners and academic staff. The skills to be acquired will enhance the learners’ confidence and ability to participate effectively in income generating activities, not only as members of the business world, but also as creative citizens dealing with issues emanating from the works that impact on other people’s lives.

When effectively implemented, this curriculum should be able to produce trainees with skills in Cosmetology and Body Therapy who will be able to:
1. Analyse hair
2. Weave and plate hair
3. Condition and treat hair and scalp
4. Design and style hair
5. Cut, trim and shape hair
6. Shape eyebrows and colour eyelashes
7. Massage and tone clients
8. Care for the nails
