For admission into any of the certificate courses, the applicant must have completed and attained the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or a Junior Technical certificate or any equivalent qualification.

The Directorate of Industrial training certificate programme (DIT) is open to all irrespective of prior academic qualifications.

National Certificate in Building Construction

This course is intended for students who wish to qualify as masons and acquire practical skills in building and construction. It is also relevant to those who intend to take up National Diploma in Building and Civil Engineering or National Diploma in Architecture in future. The course is comprised of two parts i.e. Part 1 and Part 11 whose duration is 2 years and 1 year respectively.

 

National Certificate in Electrical Systems and Maintenance

This course is intended for students who wish to qualify as electrical technicians and those who intend to acquire practical skills in the technology of electricity, electrical installation and maintenance. It is also relevant to those who may to wish to pursue National Diploma in Electrical Engineering in future. This course is comprised of two parts i.e. Part B and Part C whose duration is 2 years and 1 year respectively.

 

National Certificate in Auto Mechanics

This course is intended for students who may wish to qualify as motor Vehicle Mechanics and Technicians and those who wish to take up National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering in future. This course is comprised of two parts i.e. Part 1 and part 11 whose duration is 2 years and 1 year respectively.

 

National Certificate in Plumbing

This course is intended for students who wish to qualify as plumbing and water &sanitation technicians, it can also act as a bridge for those students who may wish to pursue National Diploma in Building and Civil Engineering, National Diploma in Architecture, National Diploma in water engineering in future. This course is comprised of two parts i.e. Part 1 and part 11 whose duration is 2 years and 1 year respectively.

 

National Certificate in Hotel and Institutional Catering.

The National Certificate in Hotel and Institutional Catering is full time programme to be taught in two academic years. Each academic year will
consist of two semesters composed of 17 weeks of which 15 shall be for training and continuous assessments and 2 for final examinations.

The CBET system caters for free exit before completion of the programme once the learner has obtained reasonable skills to enable him / her do some
work to earn a living. Such a learner may return to continue with the programme at a later date as long as it is done within a period of not more
than 5 years from the date of enrolment.

National Certificate in Fashion and Garment Design (NCFD)
This National Certificate in Fashion and Garment Design (NCFD) curriculum is aimed at producing fashion designers who are relevant to the industry and world of work. It is learner-centered and competence-based. It emphasizes acquisition of skills by the learners, through practical teaching and execution of projects.

The curriculum is in line with the BTVET Act of 2008, the BTVET strategic plan ‘’Skilling Uganda’’ and the Uganda vision 2040.

The competences that the learner is expected to acquire are clearly spelt out in the modules covered in each academic year. The modules offered in this course are packaged in a manner that will enable the learner acquire skills in performing specific tasks at a given level during the course of study.

Modules such as Computer Applications, Basic Kiswahili and life Skills, are aimed at enhancing the learner’s computer literacy, report writing, and communication skills.

National Certificate in Cosmetology, Hairdressing and Body Therapy (NCCB)

This National Certificate in Cosmetology, Hairdressing and Body Therapy (NCCB), curriculum iS aimed at producing graduates who are relevant to the industry and world of work. It is learner-centred and competence-based and emphasises acquisition of skills through practical teaching and execution of projects.

The curriculum is in line with the BTVET Act of (2008), the BTVET Strategic Plan 2011 – 2020 of “Skilling Uganda’’ and the Uganda Vision 2040. The competences that the learner is expected to acquire are clearly spelt out in the modules covered in each of the three terms of an academic year. The modules offered in this course are packaged in a manner that will enable the learner to
attain particular skills required for performing tasks at any level of the respective year of study.

Modules such as Computer Applications, Basic Kiswahili and Life Skills, are aimed at enhancing the learner’s report writing, communication and presentation skills. In addition, modules such as Hair Care and Design, Chemical Hair Reformation, Fundamentals of Hairdressing, Basic Beauty Therapy, Hair Cutting and Barbering, Basic Hair Colouring and Real Life Project are aimed at equipping the learner with the core hands-on skills and techniques in Cosmetology and Body Therapy.
